I hurt everywhere

I can barely type this. I'm exhausted, my arms are almost inoperable, and my right hand is bandaged up.
I'm super proud of myself for finishing. I really am. During the 30 round I was confronted with a "I can't." I started to cut a deal in my head saying that I would do half of the pull ups in round 20 and 10. I was starting to feel hopeless computing how many pull ups I had left at that moment (46 total left). I had to shake myself out of it, and not think of the astronomical number, but only worry about the 4 or 5 I could muster at that moment. I chipped away at it.

Ya, it was the pull ups that completely humbled me. The DUs were "rest." The Push ups were not great, I did go to failure every 5 push ups, but they weren't as devastating to my body as the pull ups. I think it's the use of my entire body when I kip that makes it soooo brutal. It almost makes me want to puke.

During the last 2 pull ups of the 20 round, I had Francisco right there cheering me on (cause I was a sad, whiney bitch at this point), I had to use a lot of force to kip. But I did it. Then I looked down at my right hand, and saw a pretty decent size flap of skin sticky straight up. Underneath that, bloody, raw flesh. Let's just say that the last 10 pull ups were a test to my pain threshold. I did them 1 at a time.

Let's take a look, shall we?

Overall, my hands are pretty raw and tender. Typing hurts. As well, as my forearms feel really swoll.

I'm going to sleep like a fuckin' bear hibernating in the winter. I suspect running drills in my near future since my upper body will not be in working order.

Jumping the gun

AMRAP 20 minutes of:

18 Dumbbell Thrusters (50#/35#) 10#

12 Toes to Bar  Knees to Elbows, strict

6 Triple unders or 18 Double Unders

I'm happy with my performance. What I'm not happy about is that I have incited and flare up of pain in my hip and back area. I'm mad at myself. I really didn't take the time to do my crossfit math. I thought, I'll do really light thrusters, cause 18 is not all that much. Well you multiply 18 by 7 rounds and you got over 120 thrusters. Aaaaaand, I had warmed up with K2T and all the that violent kipping probably irritate my front hip flexor. Theeeeennnnn, I did 40 back extension as part of the warm up as well.

I'm fuckin' retard. I spent Sunday night feeling miserable. Couldn't sleep, the pain was pretty constant.

Went in for my A.R.T appt and had to tell Eric how unhappy I was feeling trying to constantly manage my pain. It's very draining and tiring. We did the session and it was sooooo fuckin' painful. The next 24 hours were really not pleasurable. I was driven to talk 600mg of Advil to just take the edge off. Everything was difficult: sitting, walking, laying down.

I've hit the fish oil pretty hard again. I just need to start eating better, and I've sworn to lay off the alcohol.

I just want to feel better.

Another A.R.T appt tomorrow morning. It's so borderline unbearable. I can't believe I'm doing this, but I'm banking on some relief soon.

Fishy

My arms are fried. I thought I would do the WOD @ 50#s but after a few reps I failed. So I dropped down to 40#s. Round 3, I could no longer get the bar over my chin, so I stripped off 10#s.

One legged row still feels weird, and there is now way to get intensity up doing it.

Again very happy to be doing anything at this point. My arms are going to get RIPPED with this hip/back injury...

Speaking of injury, I still haven't pinned down an appt with the chiropractor. I would not be surprised to find out that my injury is really having to do with the nerves around my glute. With all the lacrosse ball rolling that I've been doing, it has given me some relief. I can't wait to see the Doc.

Fishing is still on my mind. Lol.

This is the most sure I've ever felt

I ran 400m for warm up. Came back and jumped right into DROM. During my leg front kicks and side kicks, something tweaked in my hip. I felt fine at extension, but when flexed it was painful, at 90 degrees or less. I decided to continue with the classic warm up. Doing the squats were painful. I did some stretches and some mob-wod movements to see it would "work itself out." I was determined to do deadlift today.

Without feeling any relief I jumped into lifting some weight. I started at 115#, then 145#. I wanted the my 165# to by my first official number on the board (In January I set a 4RM PR @ 165#). I got it the new PR!!! It was actually "easy." I did not release the bar at the top of the deadlift, but did the eccentric movement back to the ground. Probably a bad idea for my strained flexor, which at the time I didn't isolate it to be that muscle.

For 175#, I did release the bar at the top after each rep. The first 3 reps felt great; #4 was tough. Rep #5 was very difficult, breaking the 5RM PR I just set 5 mins prior. After dropping the bar, I fell to my knees feeling the stars swirling about my head.  It really gassed me. I laid there, rotating my hip, feeling the tension building up. At that point, I thought I would do my last set of 5 reps at the same weight of 175#.

The pain was starting to be too much. Tyler recommended that I throw in the towel and be satisfied with the numbers I put up. I'm glad I took his advice. I immediately rolled out my hip and iced it. It felt sooooo good.

I have a strong feeling that sleep isn't going to be so comfortable tonight. My hips bother anyway when I'm injury free.

Instead of back squat tomorrow, I may have to work on push-press and do an upper body couplet, maybe like the Main site WOD, hmmmm.

Unsore

CrossFit Games Open 11.3

Achilles is a-killin' me

I ran the LA Big 5K Saturday morning with 5000 other people. I arrived to Dodger Stadium before the sun. The ground was wet and slick, and the air was crisp and biting. While I was discouraged to wear my New Balance Minimus for the race, I did, only owning them for less than 16 hours. I did wear socks with them.

The race started a bit late, and they weren't very organized overall in herding the large crowd in the right direction. I started off in a decent pace. I estimated that I jogged the first mile of the race. I started to walk on our first of 3 hills. It burned the hell out of my ass. At the top of the ascent, I picked up my jog again as the trail started to wind down. There was only one water break on the route, which I did not stop for, at the half way mark.

A few hundred meters from there, on flat pavement, I started to feel the discomfort in my feet. This is where the friendly voices come into my head of not wearing my new Minimus' to this thing. Every time the ball of my foot would strike the ground I felt pain in certain pressure points. It took a lot of concentration to try to disburse my weight over more areas of my foot, but it seemed to slow me down... I had no more "spring" in my running bounce.

I approached the 2nd hill and was relieved that I got to walk. I could feel the blood rushing into my feet.

The last mile was mostly flat, save the hill that is the entrance back into Dodger Stadium  parking lot. I jog that last leg... when you come over the crest of the last hill and you see your last 600 meters, you get this burst of energy and run as fast as your tank of energy allows; in my case, not so fast.

This is what they give you when you cross the finish line:

I'm not too obsessed with my finishing time. That wasn't/isn't the point of me running the 5K. My goal, as I stated in my previous post is to get over the loathing I have for running. I intend to do more 5Ks, hopefully on a monthly basis, to learn more about my body mechanics and mindset while I run.

Maybe down the road I'll keep track of my times in a more competitive manner. For now, I'll state as more of a starting point- 41:23, which is 13 min mile.

I went into the box last night with every intention to do the WOD since it seemed like a pretty awesome chipper. I wasn't able to do it though, so I believe I'll be attempting it tonight. Hopefully my achilles will be not as tight as they have been the past few days.

Zombie-light!

Deadlift 3-3-3-3-3 reps

I felt I had good form on all of my successful attempts. I controlled the bar on the descent. On the fifth set, I attempted 170 and I could not get the bar off the ground. I was completely gassed. I still feel good about the work I did.

I just want to say that my body is complete destroyed from the last 2 days of WODs. My quads and glutes are wrecked from the overhead walking lunge and the squats from yesterday; my shoulders, pecs and tris are obliterated from Cindy. Every movement from bending over, to sitting up is a painful sore... Don't get me wrong, ITS THE GOOD HURT.

When I saw the optional WOD of 100 abmat situps for time, I wanted in. I wanted to round out my soreness by destroying my abs.

I didn't have a marker to compare to, so I didn't really have a goal in mind, but when heard that at the minute mark that I was already more than half way done near 60, I thought that 3 mins would be a good goal. Well the last 40 sit ups I hit a wall and felt slow as molasses. When Lara called time I was at 85, which meant it took over 30 seconds to finish 15 sit ups. Kinda sad :/

Hopefully tomorrow I'll be outrageously sore in the mid-section. Then I'll be completely achy over my entire body. Lol.

Go to Littlest Giant to see what I did after class.

2 steps forward, 1 step back

21-15-9 reps:

Deadlift (225/155) I did 105#

Overhead Squat (135/95) I did 35#

Can I tell you, everything felt really heavy today. I just can't believe that I did DL just last week at 127#s and I felt good and strong; then today, by the set of 15 I was hurting. I felt a tinge of twitching in the muscles around my butt bone. It was getting to be uncomfortable by the end of the WOD. I went really light on my Oversquat, but I'm glad I did because my wrists were about to go out on me in the last set of 9. I could really feel my mid-line stability cause it was my abs that immediately started to feel sore when I collapsed on the floor. I felt really good at the bottom of my squat, I was getting really deep; I'm glad that I got to work on my technique.

It looked so easy on paper... it's those that kick your ass the most.

Want to see something  AWESOME (sad for me)? Heather Bergeron's 10 year daughter is doing the 25#s for the OH squat weight, just 10#s less than me!!!! And mini-Bergeron SQUAT SNATCHED her first rep. Much respect.

Tomorrow's WOD is run 5K. I hate to run. But I'm going to give it a shot. I don't think I"m going to time myself exactly. Here's the route I plan in my neighborhood.

I hope I make good on it, cause y'all know how much I love to run :)

PS- my foot ailment yesterday was a vicious internal foot cramp. I'm all better.
